Work with Joshua Boyce, LCSW
I’ve been in the helping professions for 21 years, and 11 of those years have been spent refining my skills as a psychotherapist. It’s been an incredible privilege to walk alongside people as they move through depression, anxiety, challenging life changes, and recovery from traumatic experiences. I love this work, and I want to reach as many people as possible, because I believe in making this world a kinder, more compassionate place, one person at a time.
See below to learn more about the methods I use in my work with clients that help them make powerful changes within themselves and in their lives.
Methods
I use a mind-body approach in my work with clients, artfully integrating the most impactful methods in a manner that is customized to your unique needs, with the goal of producing notable changes in how you experience yourself and your life.

EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is a powerful, comprehensive treatment approach for processing adverse experiences that are stuck in your nervous system. These experiences are stored as a collection of elements such as images, sights, sounds, smells, beliefs, and body sensations that can come "back to life” if you encounter reminders of an experience in which you felt overwhelmed and unable to cope.
EMDR was initially developed for the treatment of trauma, and it’s a powerful treatment approach that can resolve trauma more quickly than traditional talk therapy. However, its use is not limited to recovery from trauma. It is also highly effective in clearing out unhelpful self-stories that keep you from showing up as the most effective version of yourself in the moments that matter most. It can also be used in ways that help you expand your sense of sense and what’s possible for you.

Ericksonian hypnosis is a collaborative, conversational approach to personal growth and healing. Unlike traditional hypnosis that uses rigid scripts or direct commands, this method uses tailored storytelling, metaphors, and open-ended conversation to help you change how you experience yourself and your life. Ericksonian hypnosis engages with your unconscious mind as an ally that offers resources that can change your life for the better. Sessions are customized entirely to you, allowing you to safely focus inward, see things from a new perspective, and learn how to use your existing strengths and skills in the most powerful and productive way.

Really showing up to life in the best possible way requires a functional inner world, and your inner world is made of many different parts that are sometimes in conflict. This approach is a transformative method that helps all of your parts (which all have positive intentions for you and your life!) get on the same page. We engage with them in a respectful and compassionate manner to build an inner team that helps you live your life in the most effective way possible.

Acceptance and Commitment Therapy is an approach to therapy that turns many of the traditional assumptions about therapy on their head. It helps you learn how relate to your internal experiences (thoughts and emotions) in new ways and fosters the ability to step back from those thoughts and feelings so you see them for what they are — sometimes helpful, and sometimes not — and decide what your best course of action is from a place of greater clarity. ACT is an experiential approach to therapy and can involve storytelling, metaphors, and exercises to help you learn new ways of showing up to life. If you’ve tried therapy before and it wasn’t quite what you needed, this approach is well worth a shot. To have a different experience, you have to do something different!
